LoreOwl

Asset vault

Store, version and share your team's models, textures and audio.

The vault belongs to your organization. Everyone in it sees the same assets. Open it from Assets Vault in the sidebar.

Upload

  1. Select New, then Upload files.
  2. Drop files, or click to browse.
  3. For each file, check the Name and Type. Add a Description, Tags and a Thumbnail if you want.

You can also upload from Blender, Maya, Photoshop and other tools. See Integrations.

If an upload has the same bytes as an asset you already have, LoreOwl tells you it is a duplicate.

Organize

  • Folders. Select New, then New folder. Deleting a folder moves its assets to the root.
  • Collections. Group assets across folders, for example everything one level needs.
  • Favorites. Your own list. Your teammates do not see it.
  • Filters and sort. Filter by type and tag. Sort by modified date, name, location, type or size.

Select several assets to Download, Move, Add to collection or Delete them.

Versions and comments

Select an asset to open its details. You see its versions, who uploaded each one, where it is used and its comments. Uploading the asset again from an application adds a new version and keeps the old ones.

Deleting an asset deletes every version of it.

Place an asset in a project

  1. Open the asset and select Place in project.
  2. Choose the Project and the Workspace path.
  3. Choose the Placement mode:
    • Copy copies the file into the project.
    • Linked creates a symbolic link, so one file serves several projects. Across drives, LoreOwl makes a copy and tells you.
    • Reference only records that the project uses the asset, without a copy.

Used in on the asset shows each project that uses it, and marks copies that are out of date.

To add assets from inside Godot, Unity or Unreal, install the Vault add-on.

Uploads that skip files

Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini and Reaper can upload a scene together with the files it uses. They check each file first, and upload only the files the vault does not have yet. Files the vault has are linked to the scene instead.

Storage

Select Open storage to see how much space current versions and older versions use. The vault has 1 GB on Solo, 100 GB on Studio and from 1 TB on Enterprise. See Plans and billing.

Limits

  • No 3D viewer. Audio has a play preview.
  • No generated thumbnails. You choose one at upload, or Blender captures one.
  • No format conversion. The application you upload from exports the format.
