LoreOwl

Version control

Commit, push, branch and lock files with Lore, from the Version control section of a project.

LoreOwl uses Lore, the open-source version control system from Epic Games. LoreOwl includes Lore, so there is nothing to install. LoreOwl hosts your repository.

Large files need no setup. Meshes, textures, audio and scenes are versioned like any other file.

Put a project in the cloud

A project must be in the cloud before you can push, pull or lock files. An owner selects Publish to cloud in Version control. Teammates then select Clone on the project to get a copy on their computer.

Commit and push

  1. Open Version control. The Changes view lists what changed.
  2. Stage the files you want to commit. Stage all stages everything.
  3. Write a message in What did you change?
  4. Commit. Push to remote commits and pushes in one step.

A commit stays on your computer until you push. Pull gets your teammates' commits. The toolbar shows Synced, Syncing, Not synced or Sync error.

History

The History view has the commit graph and a list of commits you can search. Select a text file to see its diff. Binary files show their size instead.

Branches

  • To create a branch, open the branch menu and select Create branch….
  • To switch branch, select it in the same menu. Commit or discard your changes first.
  • Deleting a branch archives it. Its history is kept.

Conflicts

If a pull finds changes that do not merge, LoreOwl shows Merge Conflicts Detected and lists the files. Select View Conflicts to settle them, or Cancel Sync to stop.

File locks

A lock tells the team that you are working on a file, so two people do not edit the same binary.

  • In Files, select Check out on a file to lock it. Select Release when you are done.
  • The Locked view lists every locked file and who holds it.
  • A lock does not expire. An owner can select Override to release a lock that someone left behind.

Locks are advisory. They show who holds a file. They do not stop a push. Locks need a cloud project.

Partial checkout

Lore can check out part of a project with a view file at clone time. The app does not show this yet.

Limits

  • No sync with Git. You cannot push from LoreOwl to GitHub.
  • No pull requests or code review.
  • No blame or line-by-line history.
